Norma first came to Verge with doubts—about the program and about herself. Norma wondered if they could really help her. “I came in here with my face down. Kind of upset, wondering if this was a scam or the truth?”
But as she stepped through the doors on her first day, Norma liked what she saw. “I noticed the upbeat, professional atmosphere at Verge, and I knew I wanted to be here.” Norma appreciated that she was expected to come in dressed professionally during the program sessions: “It really got everyone in the right mindset, and prepared you for the work world.”
“Verge helps you with all the skills and presentation—resumes, cover letters, applications,” Norma explains, “but what they really helped me with the most was to change my attitude about myself and about the work environment. I used to think negatively and want to work by myself, but they helped me to change all that.”
“And when you do find a position, you know you earned it because it’s up to us to do the footwork. They don’t just hand you a career on a silver platter, you go out and earn it with their help and training.”
Verge helped Norma find a temporary position with Hard Hatted Women, and she is now actively pursuing work as a business assistant. Norma thinks it will be good experience to help her achieve her long term goal—owning her own business.
